05/19/2001. Sent To A Relative Of The Hamilton Family
Dear *****
As i told you, i would send you a summary of the research i had done on Loyalists with the surname of Hamilton. I put all of the material on each person together so that you could get a better picture of what i found. Also i have enclosed two other documents - 1 a transcribed copy of a document i got from me reseacher in London and the other from a book i got just this week. The picture is forming of what must have been one family of Hamiltons from Glasgow that set up business in VA and NC, two branches of the family. It looks to me like the father of Lt Col John Hamilton ( Unsure About Name ) had four sons, all of whom were here. John appears to have been the last of these four to arrive. Then his fathers brother, John Hamilton of Dowan is mentioned. He had four sons, the oldest being William according to the enclosed documnent copy. There is a connection to the Bahamas from one or more of these young men. The big questions is which one might have ended up in the Bahamas, and if so, was he our missing link - the father of our William Hamilton.
